Perhaps from time to time, you take ibuprofen to relieve you from some bodily pain or to reduce your fever. Now, do you know that recent studies have shown that using ibuprofen can possibly lead to not just a healthier life but a longer one as well?
Dr. Michael Polymenis, a biochemist at Texas A&M University’s AgriLife Research station, reveals this from their most recent study: “We first used baker’s yeast, which is an established aging model, and noticed that the yeast treated with ibuprofen lived longer.” And he adds: “Then we tried the same process with worms and flies and saw the same extended lifespan. Plus, these organisms not only lived longer, but also appeared healthy.”
Take note that the yeast, worms and flies were treated with ibuprofen at doses comparable to the recommended dose for humans. And the resulting increase in their lifespan: an increase of 15 percent!
According to Dr. Polymenis, if human lifespans increased by that amount, it would mean an extra dozen years of healthy living! He adds that his experiments on worms show that good health would also be part of the package and not just an extended life span.
We look forward to hearing more from this study which you can check here 🙂 In the mean time, I would like to think that there is a possible added benefit each time I take a dose of this over-the-counter drug for my headache 😉
