They Call It Hematuria

A couple of months ago, my hubby went through his routine yearly medical check up as required by the school where he is teaching. We were somewhat alarmed when one of his laboratory tests indicated that that there was blood in his urine. He was then told by the medical personnel that he would have to undergo another laboratory test. We prayed about it. And then we talked about it with my sister who has been working in the nursing and medical field in the US for more than 20 years.

My sister then asked us several questions about my hubby’s diet, usual activities as well as any other symptoms he may be experiencing related to specific diseases. And then she asked us what medications he was taking and what kind of exercise he has been doing. Well, I must say that I only learned then that certain medications and strenuous exercise can cause the appearance of blood in urine (hematuria). My sister gave us practical advice to lessen any stressful activity that the hubby is involved in and to limit his exercise routine.

My hubby had more laboratory tests about a week or so later and we were happy to learn that his results came out clean this time. My hubby then told me that perhaps the 1st test result was not accurate. But well, I would say that at least we learned more about hematuria but more importantly we were reminded how fragile life could be. And how thankful we are for family and for our Creator’s precious gift of life 🙂
